Can I use Ash from the fire on my Garden?
The answer depends on the type of ash.
Ash from a coal or smokeless coal fire should not be used on your garden. This ash contains trace elements of sulphur and chlorine compounds that you should not add to your soil. Please dispose of in your normal waste, after the ash has been allowed to cool.
Ash from a log fire is fine and can be a useful additive to the compost heap or when dug into bare ground. For further information please see the relevant article on the RHS website.
